Trade for Portfolio (TFP) Swimsuit Fashion Shoot: Behind The Scenes

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet up with a photographer friend of mine and schedule a TFP swimsuit fashion shoot.

The shoot was held at a small private residence in the north Dallas area thanks to a good friend. We had a blast and so many great photos came out of this!

The concept and models

The goal of the shoot was to capture the models in a variety of summer swimsuits. The concept allowed for some beautiful fashion shots and the location made for a colorful background.

The weather was perfect and the water glistened in the mid-day sunlight.

Photographers and videographer

I was lucky enough to have a local portrait photographer named Benji setup the location for the shoot. I worked to set up the scheduling with the models.

The Behind the scenes footage was shot by my lovely wife and partner Brenda. She was shooting on the Sony a7SII with a Ronin camera stabilizer.

Working with the models on site

Our models for the day were Kristi Lynn, Jolesa, and Juliana. I have had the pleasure of working with Juliana and Jolesa on previous TFP fashion shoots, but it was the first time working with Kristi.

Overall, they all did amazing and we were able to get some great shots.

What I learned from this TFP swimsuit fashion shoot

This shoot was mid-day but I was working with my OCF flash to fill in the shadows on the models. Reflectors helped in some of the dark areas of the residence, but overall I am very happy with the shots.

I tried some natural light photography but I stayed more with flash on my Sony a7II. My go-to lens was the Sony Zeiss 35mm f1.4 but I also switched out to the Sony 85mm f1.4 GMaster often during the end of the shoot.

I would highly recommend getting out of your comfort zone and trying a TFP swimsuit fashion shoot when you get a chance.
